Bit later than planned, here’s a new mix. I’d been working on this for a few weeks but just hadn’t managed to find the time to record it until now. It’s another epic mix, the longest one so far with 47 or so tunes over three and three quarter hours and goes from 93 bpm up to 140 bpm with a mix of various styles and of old and new. If the 310 mb file is too big to download in one go you can also download it in three parts (each of which can work as a standalone mix).
Extra Long Mix: 08-01-05january08full.mp3. File Size is 310.2 mb, encoded at 192kpbs, runtime is 3:45:52
Or in three parts:
Part a: 08-01-05january08a.mp3. File Size is 119.7 mb, runtime is 1:27:10
Part b: 08-01-05january08a.mp3. File Size is 123.3 mb, runtime is 1:29:47
Part c: 08-01-05january08c.mp3. File Size is 70.3 mb, runtime is 51:16

Got another one for this month. Got some latin jazz opening and closing this one and it kicks into a slightly higher tempo than usual - 130 bpm or so working down to the mid 120s later on - and more of an emphasis on the four on the floor stuff. I should have a few more broken joints on the next one.

Ok, as promised, here’s the “epic” mix I intended to record earlier in the week. Like the 32 Tune mix, this is another double length mix, also with 32 tunes (assuming both sides of the Alice Russell 7″ count as two separate tunes) and also with a range of different type of stuff on it, but this one has less of the Soul and Balearic and a bit more of the Funk and Afro-Beat. There are one or two sketchy moments, but not bad enough to make me want to go back and re-record the whole thing again!

I thought I’d try something different. This one is over twice as long as the usual mixes (which means it won’t fit on one cd - sorry). The idea was to try and get a lot of different types of stuff on it. Soul, Jazz, Funk, House, Broken, Latin, Afro-beat, Disco, Balearic. It’s a bit of an epic in more ways than one. I actually recorded (or thought I recorded) it on Monday night but the file didn’t save properly to my computer (had to happen for the really long mix, didn’t it) so after abandoning the third rescue attempt, I went ahead and re-recorded the whole thing last night in the same sequence, adding in one extra track (04.).

Got another slightly deeper mix - mostly between about 108 and 118 bpm. There’s a mix of old, recent and new stuff and it opens out towards the end into a bit of funk and afro-beat. The transition between 06 and 07 is a bit sketchy but I’m reasonably pleased with the rest of it.

Here’s a new one. Having had the mixes blog up for a few months now, it looks like the right frequency for new mixes is going to be monthly. Any more frequently than that and I’ll be recycling a lot of tunes which I wanted to avoid. If you are interested in hearing the new mixes but don’t want to check the site every day/week, just subscribe to the rss feed and as soon as the site is updated you’ll be notified. This one has mostly new stuff on it and has a blend of different styles. Starts off with a weird-ish jazz number, then a bit of Ethiopian jazz, some bossa and then some pitched-down-below-120 bpm deepness before getting a bit more manic, finishing off with a brand new rare groove - this 7″ (from Keith Allen’s daughter!) was only released last week and is already sold out (currently at £26 on ebay).
May mix: 06-05-03.mp3. File Size is 93.1 mb, encoded at 192kpbs, runtime is 1:07:46.

Did this one over the weekend. Like the Deeper mix it has a combination of newish and old stuff but probably is a little more diverse musically (hence the title). I’m not 100% pleased with some of the mixing on this and contemplated re-recording the whole thing but I decided to put it up anyway, few rough edges and all. 06-02-25Diverse.mp3. File size is 109.4 mb and it was encoded at 192kbps, runtime is 1:19:38.

This is one I did last night. This one has a little bit of a techno flavour with the Carl Craig, Galaxy 2 Galaxy and techy Seiji mixes. I had to split it into two parts because one record just started skipping and I didn’t really find an elegant way out of it, it was encoded at 192kpbs.
