Got another slightly deeper mix – mostly between about 108 and 118 bpm. There’s a mix of old, recent and new stuff and it opens out towards the end into a bit of funk and afro-beat. The transition between 06 and 07 is a bit sketchy but I’m reasonably pleased with the rest of it.

This one is a bit sketchy in places but I think it turned out more or less alright. The idea was a selection of Soul, Jazz & Funk at around 100bpm or so. It’s all at that tempo except for the middle section of Chameleon which speeds up to around 120 (and includes that famous Ballistic Brothers’ sample) and the end of Windy C.

Here’s a new one for June. This is another diverse type mix with a bit of everything – new, old, Balearic, Brazilian, Jazz, Funk, House, Breakbeat & Broken and a range of tempos from about 105 to 140 bpm.

I’m going to be dj-ing at Discotonic in Dublin on May 27 (details here) and have been putting together some records I might like to play. This is the second of my Discotonic practice mixes and, even though it sags a little in the middle, I’m much happier with this one than the first one. I’m not sure if I’ll actually play many (or even any!) of these tunes at Discotonic but this is the type of stuff I’m thinking of playing: 06-05-11discotonicpractice.mp3. Here’s a new one. Having had the mixes blog up for a few months now, it looks like the right frequency for new mixes is going to be monthly. Any more frequently than that and I’ll be recycling a lot of tunes which I wanted to avoid. If you are interested in hearing the new mixes but don’t want to check the site every day/week, just subscribe to the rss feed and as soon as the site is updated you’ll be notified. This one has mostly new stuff on it and has a blend of different styles. Starts off with a weird-ish jazz number, then a bit of Ethiopian jazz, some bossa and then some pitched-down-below-120 bpm deepness before getting a bit more manic, finishing off with a brand new rare groove – this 7″ (from Keith Allen’s daughter!) was only released last week and is already sold out (currently at £26 on ebay).

Something else a bit different. I don’t like the term “chill-out mix” – a term which has surely been done to death by all those awful compilation cds cluttering any record shop – so I’m calling this mix of deep jazz and stuff a contemplation mix instead: 06-02-23Contemplation.mp3. File size is 99.4 mb and it was encoded at 192kbps, runtime is 1:12:21.

This is one I did last night. This one has a little bit of a techno flavour with the Carl Craig, Galaxy 2 Galaxy and techy Seiji mixes. I had to split it into two parts because one record just started skipping and I didn’t really find an elegant way out of it, it was encoded at 192kpbs.

Here’s another one from the vault. The newer mixes are getting pushed off the page so please scroll down or click on the current mixes link in the sidebar, there’s plenty of good stuff down there. This is a mix I made around the time I used to do Domingo (with Conor Griffin) at the Spirit Store in Dundalk and features the sort of stuff I used to play there. The recording quality is mostly good but there’s a bit of clipping now and then. It was ripped from a 90 minute cassette, encoded at 192 kbps and is in two parts.

This – 05-09-11MAWproductions.mp3 – is a mix I did last year for a friend who had liked the Nu Yorican Soul album but was otherwise unfamiliar with the work of ‘Little’ Louie Vega and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez. I thought I should immediately address this omission, particularly so as my two favourite Nu Yorican Soul tracks, The Nervous Track and Mind Fluid (included on this mix) didn’t appear on the most widely released version of this album. File is 71mb and was encoded at 128kbps, runtime is 1:17:32.
